What I’ve Learned (and continue to learn) from Doug

I have learned to be an individual. Being an individual means allowing our “innate soulfulness” to find its way into our lives. I have learned to value my soulfulness.
I have learned the importance of personal space.
I have learned that soul mates do not necessarily need to share everything except core values.
I have learned that one owns their own stuff and that it’s better not to feel responsible for what another person does.
I have learned to appreciate apology.
I have learned that life is more fun when approached creatively. That’s not to say that there isn’t room for convention but a little weird is good and keeps things interesting.
I have learned that lifelong learning is essential and that there are different paths for each of us which is fine.
I have really learned to laugh.
I have learned the value of loyalty.
I have learned to be patient.
I have learned that there are often many ways to accomplish something and that I love the product while Doug loves the process.
I have learned that complacency can lead to boredom.
I have learned the importance of being grateful.
I have learned that being humble is a drag but that there is also power in humility.
I have learned that there are different kinds of smart.
I have learned to use an allen wrench to fix the garbage disposal.
I have learned that not all rules were meant to be followed but that the challenge is to know which ones are important and which ones aren’t.
I have learned that pushing limits can make life interesting but it can sometimes lead to trouble.
I have learned that one can learn from another without sacrificing ego.
I have learned optimism.
I have learned to be generous with tipping.
I have learned to remain expressionless when being told that something is expensive.
I have learned to appreciate the challenge of living with someone who approaches life with wonder and gusto and to appreciate being pushed to stretch my mind, heart, and soul.
I have learned (and lived and will continue to live) the definition of Yin/Yang. Yin is often symbolized by water (Pisces) and earth, while yang is symbolized by fire (Sagittarius) and air. That is who we are.
…It is also described as heaven and earth…

When it's over, I want to say: all my life I was a bride married to amazement. I was the bridegroom, taking the world into my arms. --Mary Oliver
